Men's Golf Places Second At Vandal Fall Classic

MOSCOW, Idaho - Portland shot a 54-hole team record of 845 at the Vandal Fall Classic to finish in second place behind host Idaho (833), breaking the previous school mark of 849 set at the 1998 Vandal Fall Classic. UP junior Kevin Beavers led three Pilots in the top 20 individually, finishing in second place at 205 (-8). Freshman Joel Johnson fired a 209 (-5) and took fifth place, while senior Mike McCabe tied for 17th place with a 215 (+2).

West Coast Conference rivals Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount finished third and fourth respectively, while Idaho State, British Columbia, Simon Fraser, Cal State San Marcos, and Whitworth College rounded out the nine-team field. Jason D'Amore of Loyola Marymount claimed medalist honors with a 203 (-10).

The Pilots take a month off of competition before taking part in the Santa Clara Invitational at Silver Creek Valley Country Club on Oct. 25-26. Vandal Fall Classic Final Standings: 1. Idaho 833, 2.
