The University of Portland women's soccer team was elevated to No. 1 in the latest Soccer America national poll released on Monday, Oct. 10. Portland had been ranked second nationally by the publication for the previous four weeks behind North Carolina. After the Tar Heel's loss to rival Duke on Sunday, Portland (13-0-0) and Penn State (14-0-0) remain as the only unbeaten teams in the nation.
It marks the first time in women's soccer history that the Pilots have earned a No. 1 national ranking during the regular season.
Soccer Buzz maintained the Pilots at No. 2 for the fifth consecutive week, while promoting Penn State from third to first. Top Drawer Soccer picked the Pilots as the preseason No. 1 and the team retains that slot this week. Soccer Times and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) will release their respective polls on Tuesday.
The Pilots travel south this weekend and continue their West Coast Conference schedule against Loyola Marymount on Friday and Pepperdine on Sunday.
