WOMEN'S SOCCER - Christine Sinclair, University of Portland
The month of October proved to be a record setting one for Portland senior forward Christine Sinclair. Sinclair continued her outstanding season during the month, scoring a league-high 11 goals in leading the Pilots to an undefeated 7-0-1 record. Sinclair, who also added two assists during the month for a WCC-best 24 points, earned the league's Player of the Week honor four times. The Burnaby, B.C. native became the sixth player in NCAA Division I history to record 100 career goals. She also set the NCAA Division I record for most consecutive games with at least one goal, scoring in 17 straight matches dating back to last season. Sinclair continued her assault on the WCC record books, becoming the league's all-time leader in points with 232.
MEN'S SOCCER - Kevin Sweeney, Santa Clara University
Kevin Sweeney, a senior that sat out the last three seasons to focus on his electrical engineering studies, started all eight games for Santa Clara in October, posting five shutouts and collecting 36 saves in leading the Broncos to a 6-1-1 mark in conference play. The San Jose, CA native registered six saves in recording his first shutout of the month in SCU's 2-0 win over previously undefeated San Diego on October 7, and logged 82:43 in net during SCU's 3-0 triumph over Portland on October 14 to begin his current five-match shutout streak. Sweeney received WCC Player of the Week recognition on October 23 after collecting 12 saves in a pair of shutouts over San Francisco, and enters the month of November ranked sixth in the nation with a 0.48 goals against average.
VOLLEYBALL - Brittany Lowe, Santa Clara University
During the month of October, Santa Clara's Brittany Lowe established herself as not only one of the best freshman in the conference, but as one of the top players in the WCC. Lowe helped the Broncos post an 8-0 record during the month en route to a 20-1 overall record and a 9-0 conference mark. The Yorba Linda, CA native was the only player in the conference to rank in the top 10 in both kills (3rd - 4.54 kpg) and digs (9th - 3.18 dpg), while hitting at a solid .293 clip. Lowe, who reached double digits in kills in all eight SCU matches, registered five double-doubles during the month, bringing her season total to nine.
WOMEN'S GOLF - Eileen Vargas, Pepperdine University
Pepperdine All-American Eileen Vargas registered a pair of top 10 finishes during the month of October, leading the Waves at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate. The junior helped Pepperdine capture the team title at the Ihlanfeldt Invitational by tying for fifth place with scores of 73-77-73 for a 7-over par total of 223. Against one of the strongest fields in nation at the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate, Vargas shot rounds of 70-75-70 for a 2-over par total of 215 and a 10th place finish.
MEN'S GOLF - Alex Coe, Pepperdine University
Pepperdine's Alex Coe competed in two tournaments during the month of October and registered a pair of top 20 finishes. The senior finished third at the Club Glove Intercollegiate, shooting rounds of 74-75-73 for a 222 mark in leading the Waves to a second place finish behind San Diego State. Coe was also among four players that tied for 13th place at the Prestige at PGA West with a 2-over par score of 218. He turned in rounds of 71-75-72 to lead Pepperdine to a fifth place team finish.
