COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. - The Pepperdine University women's golf team shot an impressive 288 in the second round of the West Coast Conference Golf Championships to take a commanding 30 stroke lead over the rest of the WCC field at Saddle Creek Golf Course in Copperopolis, CA. On the men's side, play was suspended due to darkness. The Pepperdine men's team held a slim one-stroke lead, 284-285, over Saint Mary's College after the first round of play. WCC teams will wrap up championship play on Tuesday.
Three Waves women's golfers lead the WCC field heading into the final round of play. Marina Choi is the individual leader with a 143 after two rounds of play. Following Choi is teammates Carolina Llano (144) and Leanne Bowditch (147).
On the women's side, the University of San Francisco is second with a team score of 613, followed by Santa Clara University (646), the University of Portland (650), and Gonzaga University (660).
Pepperdine led the men's side after the first round with a team score of 284, followed by Saint Mary's at 285. Santa Clara ranked third after the first round with a 291, while San Francisco held fourth place with a 305. Ten strokes separated the next four teams as Portland was fifth after the first round with a 306, followed by San Diego (307), Loyola Marymount University (311), and Gonzaga (316).
