WCC Men's And Women's Tennis Championships This Weekend
With the conclusion of the regular season, West Coast Conference men's and women's tennis teams turn their attention to the conference championship. This year, the men's championship will be held in Malibu on the Pepperdine University campus, while the women's championship will take place on the University of San Diego campus. The men's team title has belonged to Pepperdine, as the Waves have captured the championship 35 times, including the last 14. Among the current WCC schools, San Diego is the only other school to have won the Championship, taking home the title in 1988 and 1989. In the 18 years since the WCC began sponsoring women's tennis, Pepperdine again has dominated the field, winning 15 of the 18 team titles. In 2002, LMU captured their first-ever women's tennis crown, joining Pepperdine as the only schools currently in the WCC to have won the title. The Waves enter the championship as the highest ranked WCC team on both the men's and women's side. The Wave men have enjoyed a spectacular season, posting an 18-2 overall record and have garnered a No. 7 ranking in the latest ITA poll. The University of San Diego men are ranked No. 31 in the latest ITA poll, while the University of Portland men's squad owns a No. 72 ranking. On the women's side, The Waves' women's team brings a No. 39 ranking into the WCC Championship, while the Loyola Marymount women are ranked No. 99.
