WCC TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL SELECTED
Women's Singles - Bianca Dulgheru, Pepperdine University
Bianca Dulgheru capped the regular season by posting a 6-1 record during the month of April to improve to 24-4 overall. The freshman standout posted a 3-1 record at the No. 1 singles position and a 3-0 mark at No. 2 singles for the Waves. She defeated two ranked opponents during the month, defeating No. 51 Darla Panova of Oregon and No. 88 Susanna Lingman of Harvard, while her lone setback was to No. 11 Daniela Bercek of UCLA. Dulgheru was key to the Waves capturing the WCC Championship, earning three straight-set victories. For her effort, Dulgheru was named the WCC's Freshman of the Year and was selected to the all-conference first team. Dulgheru's strong performance in April lifted her to No. 29 in the ITA final regular season rankings making her the highest ranked women's singles player in the conference.
Women's Doubles - Aude Lambert and Jessica Hoath, Saint Mary's College
The doubles team of Aude Lambert and Jessica Hoath made history during the month of April, posting a 7-1 record en route to becoming the first Saint Mary's men's or women's doubles team to earn first team all-conference distinction. Lambert and Hoath played all eight of their matches at the No. 1 doubles position, falling only to No. 41 ranked Courtney Jantz and Lucia Sainz of Fresno State. In addition, the duo posted a perfect 4-0 record versus WCC opponents to close out the season.
Men's Singles - Pierrick Ysern, University of San Diego
Pierrick Ysern closed out the regular season with a perfect 4-0 record, while playing solely at the No. 1 singles position for the Toreros. All four of his wins during the month came via straight sets highlighted by a 6-4, 6-1 win over 2005 WCC Player of the Year Scott Doerner of Pepperdine in the WCC Championship match. Ysern defeated two ranked opponents during the month in No. 34 Doerner, and No. 77 Benedikt Stronk of San Diego State. Ysern's performance during April helped him garner a WCC-best No. 10 ranking in the final ITA regular season poll.
Men's Doubles - Scott Doerner and Pedro Rico, Pepperdine University
During the month of April, the tandem of Scott Doerner and Pedro Rico proved to be one of the best in the nation as the duo posted a 5-0 record at the No. 1 doubles position for the Waves. Doerner and Rico reached as high as No. 2 in the country after registering three ranked wins, including a dramatic 9-8 win over defending national champions KC Corkery and Sam Warburg of Stanford. Doerner and Rico also defeated No. 30 Jonathan Chu and Ashwin Kumar of Harvard and No. 47 Adil Shamasdin and Phil Charm of Brown. Doerner and Rico closed out the regular season by earning All-WCC first team honors and garnering a No. 7 ranking in the final ITA regular season poll.
