Sept. 7, 2005

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Three WCC soccer players were tabbed for national honors following their performances last weekend. Portland's Christine Sinclair was named as the Soccer America Women's Player of the Week, while Santa Clara's Keith DeVey was tabbed for Soccer America Men's Player of the Week honors. Saint Mary's freshman Michael Clegg was also honored, being named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week along with DeVey.

Sinclair enjoyed a monster week, earning WCC Player of the Week honors after tallying an amazing eight goals and leading the Pilots to a 3-0 record. The senior scored a career-high five goals and assisted on the other score in a 6-0 Pilot triumph over Oregon, before tallying a goal in UP's 3-0 win over San Diego State and scoring both Portland goals in a 2-0 win over Pacific. Sinclair was named to both the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz National Teams of the Week for her efforts. The Soccer Buzz honor was Sinclair's sixth of her career, tying her with Penn State's Tiffany Weimer and Tennessee's Keeley Dowling (2001-2004) for the most in Soccer Buzz history.

Santa Clara's Keithe DeVey tallied two game-winning goals last week, including the final score in the Broncos' upset of then-No. 2 UCLA.

DeVey was named as the Soccer America National Player of the Week after scoring a pair of clutch goals to lift the Broncos to two wins over the weekend. The junior scored with three minutes remaining to break a 2-2 tie and lead SCU to a 3-2 upset of then-No. 2 ranked UCLA on Friday, and tallied a goal five minutes from time to help the Broncos top Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, on Sunday.

Clegg, who shared WCC Player of the Week honors with Devey, was named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week after starting his collegiate career with a bang last weekend. The freshman registered a hat-trick in the Gaels' season-opening 3-0 win over Sacramento State and followed up the performance with goal in SMC's 1-0 victory over Oregon State.

Saint Mary's Michael Clegg scored all four of the Gaels' goals last weekend, leading SMC to its first 2-0 start since 1991
