SAN BRUNO, CALIF. -- The 2006 West Coast Conference Winter All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. Near the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports.
This year's women's group is highlighted by Portland's Whitney Grant and Rachel Warren, who were both named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team in February. Grant earned WCC All-Academic honors for the third time during her career on The Bluff, while Pepperdine's Kelsey Ball, USD's Polly Dong and Sabine Loewe, and Santa Clara's Ashley Graham were named Academic All-WCC for the second straight season. Gonzaga's Stephanie Hawk joined five other first time honorees on the All-Academic team after being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII third team.
On the men's side, Pepperdine's Keith Jarbo was selected for academic all-conference honors for the third straight season after posting a team-high 3.73 GPA in Sports Medicine, while San Diego's Ross DeRogatis, Gonzaga's Sean Mallon, and Portland's Ben Sullivan were each selected for the second straight year. This season's Academic All-WCC squad also features four first-time selections in San Diego's Corey Belser, Santa Clara's Mitch Henke and Joey Kaempf, and San Francisco's Vince Polakovic.
