WCC PLAYERS OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY SELECTED

Men's Tennis - Scott Doerner, Pepperdine University
Pepperdine senior Scott Doerner was instrumental in helping the Waves to the finals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. During the month of February, Doerner posted a 3-2 record with his two losses coming to No. 5 Ludovic Walter of Duke and No. 3 Benjamin Kohlloeffel of UCLA. His month was highlighted with a straight sets win over #12 Erling Tveit of Mississippi to help the Waves advance to the semifinals of the Indoor Championships.

Men's Tennis - Pierrick Ysern, University of San Diego
A season-ending injury required Ysern to sit out for the fall 2005 season, but he has made an immediate impact upon his return. Ysern is currently undefeated in singles, playing at the No. 1 spot. He posted a perfect 5-0 record during the month of February, winning each match in straight sets. Ysern played a crucial role in USD's 4-3 upset of then-18th ranked USC, defeating the Trojans' top player in straight sets.

Women's Tennis - Pavla Mesterova, Loyola Marymount University
Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Month Loyola Marymount's Pavla Mesterova went undefeated in singles play during the month of February. She racked up a perfect 9-0 record at the Lions' top singles spot. Each victory was in straight sets at the No. 1 spot as she did not drop a set during the month. Four of her nine wins were against opponents from ranked programs.

Men's Golf - Alex Coe, Pepperdine University
Pepperdine senior Alex Coe competed in two tournaments during the month of February and registered a pair of top 10 finishes. Coe tied for eighth at the 21-team UH Hilo Intercollegiate and tied teammate J.J, Wood for 10th place at the 15-team Ashworth Collegiate Invitational. Coe's final-round 67 helped Pepperdine capture the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational, registering a nine-shot victory over host USC. In six rounds, Coe posted a 70.17 stroke average and record four rounds in the 60s. Coe currently leads the 28th-ranked Waves with a 71.95 stroke average in 21 rounds.

Women's Golf - Eileen Vargas, Pepperdine University
Pepperdine junior Eileen Vargas posted a pair of top15 finishes in two tournaments during February. She tied for 12th at the prestigious Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge and tied for 14th at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational that included 14 teams ranked in the top 25, including No. 1 and defending national champion Duke. In six rounds, she posted a 73.17 stroke average, leading the Waves to seventh place finishes in both tournaments.

Women's Golf - Mary Kate Morgan, Gonzaga University
Gonzaga junior Mary Kate Morgan made history during the month of February, becoming the first GU women's golfer to win a major tournament when she shot an even-par 72 Sunday to win the Red Rock Invitational by two strokes on February 26th. Morgan finished with a 4-over-par 148 to defeat first-round leader Sophia Choi of Northern Arizona University.
