SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- No fewer than 25 West Coast Conference baseball student-athletes, representing nine league programs, heard their names called during the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. For the fourth consecutive season, the WCC had a student-athlete selected in the first round as 2015 WCC Player of the Year Kyle Holder (San Diego) was selected by the New York Yankees with the 30th overall pick.

WCC Draft Bullets

  • 11 WCC student-athletes were chosen in the first 10 rounds, including two in the top four
  • Three WCC student-athletes were selected by the Colorado Rockies, while Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants and Tampa Bay Rays all tabbed a pair
  • The WCC dominated the seventh (five) and eighth (two) rounds with seven student-athletes drafted
  • WCC Draftees by League: American (13); National (12)
  • WCC Draftees by Position: Catchers (1), Infielders (10), Outfielders (2), Pitchers (12)
  • San Diego led all WCC programs with seven drafted, followed by Loyola Marymount (5), Gonzaga (3), Pacific (3), Pepperdine (2) and Santa Clara (2). BYU, Saint Mary's and San Francisco each had one drafted student-athlete.
  • Five WCC programs produced a top-10 draft pick, led by three apiece from Loyola Marymount and San Diego. Gonzaga and Santa Clara each had two student-athletes chosen, while Pepperdine had one.
