Pepperdine's James Gehrels Named D1 SAAC Vice Chair

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Pepperdine University senior student-athlete James Gehrels has been selected by his peers on the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to serve as a Vice Chair for the organization. Gehrels's appointment will run from June 2017 to May 2018.  

Gehrels becomes the first student-athlete from a West Coast Conference institution to be hold a top leadership position for the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

A senior from Tucson, Ariz., Gehrels is pursuing a degree in Sports Administration with a certificate in Conflict Management through the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. He aspires to be an Athletic Director at a NCAA Division I institution. He also interns and works in the Pepperdine University athletic department and is the co-president of the Pepperdine Waves Leadership Council while also serving on the Pepperdine Ambassador's Council. He has epresented Pepperdine and student-athletes at the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Collegiate Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) national convention in 2016.

Outside of the classroom, Gehrels competes as an outside hitter on the Pepperdine men's volleyball team. He has been named a three-time Pepperdine Scholar Athlete.
