NCAA RELEASE

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The NCAA Wednesday (May 3) recognized more than 1,200 Division I teams for outstanding academic achievements, a list that includes 26 West Coast Conference teams representing nine WCC institutions.

With the release of the NCAA's APR Public Recognition Awards, Gonzaga University was second in the nation with 73.3 percent of its teams earning the honor, NCAA officials announced Wednesday.

Based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate, teams posting APR scores in the top 10 percent of their sport earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-2013, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.

Individually, Gonzaga's women's golf team is one of just 93 teams nationally that has earned Public Recognition Awards in each of 12 years of the Public Recognition program.

Gonzaga led the West Coast Conference with its 11 teams honored, followed by Pepperdine's seven and Santa Clara's five. Additionally, BYU, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Saint Mary's, San Diego and San Francisco had teams represented.
