SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its
Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for February 25, 2019.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – RILEY ORNIDO, JR., RHP – SAN FRANCISCO
Junior righthander Riley Ornido earned his first win of the season Friday by throwing seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts and just three hits allowed in a 2-0 series-opening victory over CSU Bakersfield.
Ornido struck out the side in the first and sixth innings. He struck out five of the first six batters he faced. Only once did he allow a runner to get past second base, and when that happened in the fourth (via an error), he induced an inning-ending double play to get out of the jam.
Also Nominated: Connor Knutson, Portland; Ty Madrigal, Saint Mary's; Jake Miller, San Diego; Hayden Pearce, Pacific; Jordan Wood, BYU
WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – BRANDON SHEARER, SR., IF – LMU
