SAN BRUNO, Calif. – After another run to the top of the national rankings No. 1 Gonzaga dominated the 2018-19 All-WCC Basketball Teams as announced Tuesday by the league office. No. 1/1 Gonzaga (29-2, 16-0 WCC) captured its seventh straight regular season title and ran the table for the fifth time in program history at the first since the Zags earned the program’s first No. 1 ranking in 2013.
 
All-American forward Rui Hachimura captured Player of the Year honors, while Mark Few extended his own conference record, capturing his 13th Coach of the Year plaque for Gonzaga. In addition, junior forward Brandon Clarke captured both Newcomer and Defensive Player of the Year honors for the Zags, becoming the first to win both accolades and the first to do so in the same year in conference history.
 
All four individual awards – along with the All-West Coast Conference Teams and the All-Freshman Team – were voted on by the league’s 10 head coaches.
 
Hachimura beomes the first Zag selected as WCC Player of the Year since former teammate Nigel Williams-Goss did so in 2016-17 enroute to the 2017 NCAA Championship game. A national finalist for the Naismith Trophy, the Oscar Robertson Award and the Wooden Award among others, Hachimura opened the season winning MVP honors in the 2018 Maui Jim Maui Invitational and simply ran roughshod through the remaining schedule. The Julius Erving Award finalist averaged 20.6 points, connecting on 61.3% from the field to go along with 6.6 rebounds. The Japanese Preseason All-American ranks in the top-40 among Division I national leaders in scoring (39th) and field goal percentage (18th).
 
One of the most impactful transfers throughout Division I this season, Clarke burst onto the scene with a strong performance in the Maui Invitational and shows no signs of slowing down during a record-setting campaign. The San Jose State transfer is threatening two WCC single-season records in both field goal percentage and blocked shots. The junior enters the 2019 WCC Championship with a field goal percentage of 68.8% and 99 blocks – both tops in Division I this season. The blocked shots are the most in a single season in Gonzaga’s storied history and ranks sixth on the career list. In addition, Clarke adds 16.6 points 8.5 rebounds, good for eighth and third place respectively on the WCC charts.
 
It was yet another record-setting season for Few and No. 1/1 Gonzaga. The Bulldogs roared to the 2018 Maui Invitational Championship, suffered two shorthanded losses to a pair of top-five opponents before barreling to 20 consecutive victories, including an unblemished 16-0 WCC slate. The Zags enter Vegas at 29-2 and returned to No. 1 in both national polls for the second time this season in the penultimate week of the regular season. Along the way Gonzaga surpassed 25 victories for the 13th straight season – and secured the program’s seventh consecutive regular season WCC title. Gonzaga has now won at least a share of 18 of the last 19 championships. The 2017 AP National Coach of the Year, Few is the active NCAA career leader in winning percentage (82.5%), Few owns a 564-120 overall record and is the only coach in conference history to surpass 200, 250 and 275 league triumphs, sitting at a sparkling 276-30 (89.7%) slate.
 
Gonzaga’s four first team selections are the most since the 1998-99 squad placed four on the list. San Francisco placed three on the five-member first team in 1976-77. Of the 10-member All-WCC First Team, eight appeared on the 2018-19 preseason All-WCC squad. BYU’s Yoeli Childs, Gonzaga’s Hachimura and Josh Perkins and San Francisco’s Frankie Ferrari all collect their second first team honor.
 
With the conclusion of the regular season, WCC teams head to Las Vegas to compete for the 2019 West Coast Conference Basketball Championship. Tournament action tips off Thursday, March 7 at the Orleans Arena. This year is the 11th WCC Championship in Las Vegas.
