BYU’s Mantz, Gonzaga’s Manley Named WCC Cross Country Runners of the Week

Both won individual titles leading respective squads

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its men’s and women’s Runners of the Week for September 16, 2019.
 
MALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK – CONNER MANTZ, SO. – BYU
Sophomore Conner Mantz won the BYU Autumn Classic with a time of 21:12, 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. He paced the Cougar runners for the whole race before a strong kick in the last 800 meters. 
 
An All-American as a freshman, following a 10th-place showing at the 2018 NCAA Nationals, Mantz was the runner up at last year’s WCC Championship.

FEMALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK – CLAIRE MANLEY, JR. – GONZAGA
Junior Claire Manley won the women's race at the Cougar Classic Friday. On a windy afternoon at the Colfax Golf Club, the site of the NCAA West Regionals, Manley coasted to the win. Her winning time of 21:04.8 ranks ninth in program history.
 
She remained in front the majority of the race, crossing the line well ahead of second-place finisher Kyla Danforth (21:24.8) of Loyola Marymount. Manley helped the Zags place second as a team, with five finishes in the Top-20.
