Former Gael ace strikes out 10 Pirates in return to the Milwaukee rotation

BREWERS/PIRATES GAME RECAP

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announces its WCC Alumni Player of the Week honors of the summer, presented by University Credit Union. The Week Nine honoree is former Saint Mary’s ace Corbin Burnes, who collects his second honor of the summer.

Making his return to the starting rotation for Milwaukee, Burnes once again dazzled in his best start of the season on Friday against Pittsburgh. In the Brewers’ 9-1 triumph, Burnes dominated striking out 10 batters in just 6.0 innings. He allowed three hits – all singles – and did not allow a runner in scoring position.

An All-WCC first team pick as a junior in his final collegiate season in Moraga, Burnes led the Gaels to the 2016 WCC Tournament Championship and helped the program to its first-ever NCAA Regional berth.

ALSO CONSIDERED: Danielle Kang, Pepperdine (Women’s Golf); Erik Spoelstra, Portland (Men’s Basketball)
