SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for February 23, 2021.
#WCCSPORTS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MIKE BOWES, GR., OF – SANTA CLARA
Santa Clara baseball graduate student Mike Bowes hit a home run in three-straight games against nationally ranked UC Santa Barbara over the weekend. In the series, Bowes went 6-for-14, scored five runs and drove in seven with a slashline of .429/.429/1.071. In Friday's series opener, Bowes belted a three-run homer going 3-for-5 and scored three runs to help the Broncos to an 8-4 win over No. 8 ranked UCSB. On Saturday, he had a solo homer to go along with a single in the 9-6 loss. In Sunday's series finale, Bowes was moved up to the cleanup spot and hit a three-run shot to get the Broncos within one run but lost 5-4.

#WCCSPORTS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – ALEX PHAM, JR., RHP – SAN FRANCISCO
Alex Pham threw three innings of important shutout relief Friday at No. 2 UCLA, escaping two bases-loaded jams while striking out five to keep the Bruins scoreless and allow the Dons to get an important series-opening win. Pham entered in relief in a tough spot during the sixth inning. Already with two runners in scoring position and no outs, only one inherited runner would score. After a walk loaded the bases, he proceeded to get a one-pitch infield fly, a strikeout and a groundout to strand the bases loaded and preserve the Dons' lead at 3-2. He would escape another bases-loaded jam in the eighth after a single and two walks, striking out UCLA's Kevin Kendall on an elevated fastball after an eight-pitch battle, preserving the Dons' two-run lead at the time.
