SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its University Credit Union Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for March 16, 2021.
UCU #WCCSPORTS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JULIE DOYLE, SR., F – SANTA CLARA
Senior forward Julie Doyle scored the match winner at No. 13 BYU in the 88th minute to give Santa Clara a 2-1 victory. The win improved the Broncos to 3-0-0 and gave head coach Jerry Smith his 500th career win, becoming just the third NCAA women’s soccer coach with 500 Division I victories.
Also Nominated: Madi Cook, Pepperdine; Jamie Goralski, San Diego; Laura Trapero Sanz, Saint Mary's (CA)
UCU #WCCSPORTS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – TRINITY WATSON, JR., D – PEPPERDINE
All-WCC first team defender Trinity Watson posted the first two-goal game of her career in Saturday's win at Pacific. She scored on both a penalty kick and on a free kick, which came less than two minutes apart in the first half. The free kick, in which she bent the ball around the Pacific wall and curled it just inside the right post, was called "world class" by head coach Tim Ward. Her first goal turned out to be the game-winner. Watson also keyed a defensive effort that limited Pacific to eight shots and just two on goal. Watson is now tied for the team high with three goals this season.
