SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer earned one of 16 national seeds in the NCAA Tournament, the 30th appearance in program history. The 11th seeded Broncos will have a first round bye and face the winner of Ohio State and Stony Brook May 1 at 8 p.m. Eastern. The game will take place on the campus of East Carolina University.
Coming off the
11th West Coast Conference title in program history, the Broncos (7-1, 7-0 WCC) ran the table in league play, becoming the first team since Portland in 2009 to win each league contest.
Santa Clara had to go on the road and get wins
at BYU and
at Pepperdine, arguably the two most difficult venues in the conference.
The Broncos high-powered offense, tied for seventh in the country with 2.7 goals per game and seventh with 8.3 points per game, is led by
Kelsey Turnbow and
Izzy D'Aquila. Turnbow has scored a team-high seven goals and is tied for the team-lead with four assists. She is tied for sixth nationally with 1.0 goals per game and fifth with 2.6 points per game. D'Aquila has found the back of the net five times and added an assist.
Sally Menti has added four assists to tie with Doyle for the most on the team. Five other Broncos have scored and nine have added at least one assist.
