SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its Volleyball All-Academic Team for the 2020-21 spring season. This year’s 16-member first team encompasses WCC student-athletes who excelled both on the court and in the classroom.
Seven volleyball programs placed at least one student-athlete on the first team led by four from perennial NCAA Tournament participant San Diego and three apiece from NCAA Tournament participant Pepperdine and Gonzaga. BYU, the 2020-21 WCC Champions and LMU each placed a pair on the first team.
This year’s squad features six repeat appearances headlined by BYU’s
Kennedy Eschenberg, who makes her third and final first team appearance. Gonzaga’s
Chapin Gray, Pacific’s
Gabby Leo, San Diego’s
Laura Madill, Pepperdine’s
Madison Shields, and Gonzaga’s
Julia Talarico each earned their second spot on the first team.
No fewer than 47 volleyball student-athletes qualified for academic honors. More than 25 posted a GPA of at least 3.50, while 18 posted marks of 3.75 or better.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
