SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for September 27, 2021.
#WCCSPORTS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MEGAN RICE, SR., OUTSIDE HITTER – LMU
In her return from injury that dated back to the second week of the season, senior outside hitter Megan Rice played all seven sets and led the Lions to a 2-0 record with a pair of WCC wins over the weekend, and 11-straight match wins overall.
Rice totaled a team high 37 kills and 5.29 kills per set over the two matches. Rice led the Lions with 23 kills in the four-set win at Santa Clara on Thursday before adding 14 more assists in thee sweep at San Francisco. The redshirt senior added an ace from the service line and no service errors against the Broncos.
It is the second WCC weekly offensive honor for the Lions this season and the first since Kari Geissberger was selected in week two.

#WCCSPORTS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MADISON SHIELDS, SR., LIB – PEPPERDINE
Senior libero Madison Shields had a solid performance this weekend, averaging 3.50 digs, 0.13 aces and 1.50 assists per set for the No. 23 Waves, helping her team to a sweep over San Francisco and a reverse-sweep over Santa Clara - both on the road. She marked 28 digs throughout both matches, along with 12 assists and an ace.
First, she put in six digs and two assists to average 0.67 aces and 2.00 digs per set for her team against the Dons. Then, in the win over the Broncos on Saturday, she marked her first career double-double on a season-high 22 digs and a career-best 10 assists. She averaged 4.40 digs and 2.00 assists, along with 0.20 aces per set throughout the match.
It is the second WCC weekly defensive honor for the Waves this season and the third overall.
