STOCKTON, Calif. - No,. 3 seed San Diego and No,. 6 seed San Francisco combined to hit six home runs (three each), but it was the Toreros who emerged victorious, 10-5, in the opening game of the 2022 WCC Baseball Tournament from Banner Island Ballpark on Wednesday.
WCC Player of the Year Caleb Ricketts slugged two of the USD roundtrippers. Ricketts paced the Toreros with three hits, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI on the homers.
USD struck first in the bottom of the first, plating two runners before the Dons eventually tied it at two in the fourth inning.
USF took a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning when Luke Keaschall belted a two-run homer before Gabe Giosso followed that with a solo shot, both to left-center field. Brandon Greim boasted the third USF home run, one of his two hits on the day.
In the bottom of the sixth, Dustin Allen tied the game with a three-run homer to right before Ricketts slugged a solo shot which proved to be the eventual game winner.
USD faces No. 2 seed Portland tomorrow at 7 p.m.
