STOCKTON, Calif - The WCC Player of the Year Caleb Ricketts homered twice, leading No. 3 seed San Diego into the WCC Baseball Tournament title game after the Toreros knocked off No. 10 and top-seed Gonzaga, 5-3, Friday afternoon from Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton.
Ricketts now boasts a tournament-best five round trippers in the WCC Tournament. On Friday, he went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Friday's game marked a come-from-behind win for the Toreros after Gonzaga jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring one in the first and two in the third.
Ricketts evened the game at three with a three-run four-bagger in the bottom of the fourth. San Diego took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the next inning before Ricketts added an insurance run for his team with a solo shot in the eighth.
In a battle of two of the WCC's top pitchers, Gonzaga's Gabriel Hughes struck out seven batters while San Diego's Brycen Mautz collected nine K's.
Savier Pinales and Cade McGee each homered for the Zags, while Ezra Samperi notched three hits for the Bulldogs.
The Toreros await the winner of Friday night's elimination game between Gonzaga and Portland on Saturday.
