WCC Lands Two In NCAA Tournament

SAN MATEO - The West Coast Conference heard two of its baseball teams announced into the NCAA Tournament during Monday's selection show. No. 10 ranked and WCC regular season champion Gonzaga and WCC Tournament champion San Diego were named to the national field.

The Bulldogs will be making their 12th NCAA Regional appearance while this will be the Toreros' ninth appearance. This also marks the 13th time in Conference history that the WCC has featured two teams earning bids to the NCAA Tournament. The last time the WCC got two teams in was 2016 (Gonzaga and Saint Mary's).

The NCAA Baseball Regionals will take place from June 3-6, followed by the NCAA Super Regionals the following weekend before the NCAA College World Series will be held in Omaha, Neb., from June 16-27.

USD will fly up the coast to Oregon State and play in the Corvallis regional the features the Regional host and No. 3 overall seed Beavers, Vanderbilt, USD and New Mexico State. The Toreros and the Commodores will meet in the first round on Friday. USD is the No. 3 seed in the regional.

USD is 9-7 all-time against Oregon State, 1-0 against New Mexico State and 2-8 against Vanderbilt.

The Toreros are making their first appearance in an NCAA Regional since 2013 after USD won the first WCC Baseball Tournament. In 2013, USD competed in the Los Angeles Regional, picking up wins over San Diego State and Cal Poly before eventually being eliminated by host UCLA.

The Zags will trek across the country to Virginia Tech and play in the Blacksburg Regional. The Zags will battle with the Regional host and No. 4 overall seed Hokies, Columbia and Wright State. The No. 2 regional seed secured by Gonzaga matches its best in program history, and it's the second-straight season in which GU has earned a No. 2 regional seed. GU and Columbia will meet in the first round on Friday.

Gonzaga has never faced any of these three teams before in program history.

GU represented the WCC in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, competing in the Eugene Regional as a No. 2 seed for the first time in program history.

All NCAA Tournament games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. More information regarding specific channels and start times will be announced soon.
