SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – After knocking off No. 12 Gonzaga last Saturday in Moraga, Saint Mary's swept the University Credit Union West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week awards as announced by the Conference on Monday. Mitchell Saxen won UCU WCC Player of the Week, while for the ninth time this season, Aidan Mahaney won UCU WCC Freshman of the Week.
UCU WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MITCHELL SAXEN, JR., C – SAINT MARY'S
Mitchell Saxen recorded back-to-back double-doubles during two Saint Mary's wins last week, including a come-from-behind thrilling victory over No. 12 Gonzaga. Against USF, Saxen posted an even 10 points and 10 rebounds, and followed that with 15 points and 11 rebounds against the Bulldogs. Saxen has now collected three-straight double-doubles, the longest of his collegiate career. He leads the conference in rebounds, blocks and second in field goal percentage. This is Saxen's first weekly honor of the season and the second time a Gael has won Player of the Week (Logan Johnson on Jan. 16).

UCU WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – AIDAN MAHANEY, FR., G – SAINT MARY’S
Coming through for his team once again when they needed him the most, Aidan Mahaney was clutch against both San Francisco and No. 12 Gonzaga last weekend. The freshman scored 17 and 18 points, but made a name for himself on national TV against the Zags. He scored 16 points in the final six minutes of regulation and overtime, including scoring or assisting on 19 of 21 points during one stretch. SMC erased an eight-point deficit and come back to beat Gonzaga in Moraga for the second time in as many seasons. Mahaney has now won Freshman of the Week nine times, including the last six straight. He tied Chet Holmgren's nine freshman weekly accolades last season.
