BREMERTON, Wash. – Zac Jones of BYU is in sole possession of first place in the 2023 West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Gold Mountain Golf Course. Jones is nine-under par with a narrow one-shot lead through the second round.
The weather conditions were similar with sunny, clear skies and mild winds in round two.
Jones helped BYU take the lead over San Francisco, shooting 15-under 273 in the second round and 18-under 558 overall.
San Francisco finished the second round second on the team leaderboard at 8-under 280 for a total score of 563. Pepperdine is one stroke behind the Dons 8-under 280 on the day and 564 through 36 holes.
William Mouw of Pepperdine is second with a round 2 score of four-under 68. BYU’s Max Brenchley is in third shooting five-under 67. Derek Hitchner of Pepperdine and San Diego’s Kelvin Si both shot under par on Friday and finished tied in fourth with a two-round score of 138. Hitchner shot six-under 66, a round best, while Si was three-under 69.
BYU leads the pack with 41 birdies through 36 holes. LMU is next with 36. Max Brenchley of BYU and Gonzaga’s Z Stocker’s 12 birdies pace the field. Close behind them is defending individual champion, Ryan Lewis of LMU. There were 10 eagles sunk in the day led by Santa Clara’s Viraj Garewal with two.
The WCC Men’s Golf Championship will conclude tomorrow with the third round from Gold Mountain Golf Course.
