Santa Clara Wins First WCC Baseball Tournament Title

LAS VEGAS - Santa Clara won its first West Coast Conference Baseball Tournament with a 6-0 win over Portland Saturday afternoon from Las Vegas Ballpark.

The Broncos earned the Conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament and SCU will be making its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1997. 

Efrain Manzo got the Bronco party started with a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the first. An RBI ground out in the second put SCU up, 3-0. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Michael O'Hara padded the lead with an RBI single to right, making it 4-0 SCU before Eamonn Lance knocked in two more with a single to left, increasing the lead to 6-0. 

Brandon Gomez shut down the Pilots' offense, going eight innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts. 

The Broncos will find out where they were open the NCAA Tournament when selections are announced on Monday at 9 a.m. PT.
