WCC Announces 2024 Women's Cross Country Awards

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Two-time WCC Individual Champion Rosina Machu of Gonzaga was once again named the 2024 West Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year, while Gonzaga head coach Jake Stewart won WCC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.

The Conference recognizes the WCC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year and WCC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year in a vote of each of the Conference’s head coaches at the conclusion of the NCAA cross country season for all programs.

Stewart claimed WCC Coach of the Year honors for the first time in his career. This is also the third time Gonzaga has won WCC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year since 2000 - Patty Ley in 2015 and Kevin Swaim in 2000. Stewart guided the Bulldogs to earning an at-large bid into the NCAA Championships. The at-large bid came after No. 16 Gonzaga won its first team title at the WCC Championships since 2015.

Machu repeated as WCC Individual Champion, leading the way for Gonzaga to capture the WCC Championship, as well. Machu was the top WCC runner at the NCAA West Regional meet, finishing fourth overall. She later crossed the finish line in 45th place at NCAA Championships. An All-WCC First Team honoree, Machu won Credit Union 1 WCC Cross Country Women's Runner of the Week on two occasions in 2024.
