SAN BRUNO, Calif. - It was a record-setting year for West Coast Conference Men's Soccer as a conference-record tying nine student-athletes were selected during the 2025 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Friday. In addition, for the first time in conference history, five student-athletes were selected in the first round.
The overall draft selections are the most for the WCC since the Conference also had nine players selected during the 1996 MLS Inaugural Draft. The five first-round draft picks surpass the previous record of two first-round picks, which had previously been recorded five times and most recently in 2024 and 2022.
“The WCC is one of the NCAA’s strongest conferences in men’s soccer," said WCC Commissioner Stu Jackson. "Historically, our postseason performance of achieving multiple NCAA bids in seven of the past eight seasons, including at least one team in the Sweet 16 each of the last three years and two Elite Eight appearances over the past three years is a testament to our student-athletes and coaches. Our strength was again on full display today with a conference-record five first-round picks and a record-tying nine selections in the MLS SuperDraft. Congratulations to all the exceptional student-athletes who were selected in today’s SuperDraft. The WCC is a pipeline to the pros.”
The first WCC draft selection was the Conference's 2024 Defensive Player of the Year Reid Roberts of San Francisco who went fifth overall to San Jose. Roberts is the league's highest draft pick since Erik Hurtado (Santa Clara) also went fifth overall in 2013. Oregon State featured two selections in the first round - Enzo Newman (No. 11, Dallas) and the 2024 WCC Offensive and Freshman of the Year Sergi Solans (No. 30, Real Salt Lake). Oregon State became the first WCC program since Santa Clara in 2004 to garner two first round draft picks.
Rounding out the first-round picks were Efetobo Aror of Portland going 12th to Colorado and the 2024 WCC Goalkeeper of the Year Donovan Parisian from WCC Champion San Diego, who went 18th to New England.
Portland and San Diego each garnered their second draftees in the second round. Nick Fernandez went 32nd overall, joining Roberts with San Jose. Samy Kanaan of USD will be staying close to home as San Diego drafted him 56th overall.
OSU's Aranu Farnos, the 2024 WCC Midfielder of the Year, was drafted 84th overall by New York City. Four picks prior to that, Ben Augee of Gonzaga was selected 80th overall by Cincinnati.
