SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Defending West Coast Conference Baseball champion San Diego has been selected as the favorite to capture the 2025 West Coast Conference Baseball crown in the Conference’s annual preseason coaches’ poll.
The coaches’ poll and preseason All-WCC team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's nine head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
San Diego claimed eight of the nine first-place votes to a total of 64 points. Portland came in second with 48 points and the other first-place vote, while Gonzaga and Saint Mary's tied for third with 44 points each. Right behind them in fifth was Santa Clara with 43 points. LMU was next in sixth with 36 points.
Four members of the WCC Preseason Team earned postseason first-team recognition in 2024, including the 2024 WCC Pitcher of the Year Carter Gaston from Portland and the WCC Freshman of the Year Logan Reddemann from San Diego. The other two 2024 all-conference honorees on the preseason team are Austin Smith from USD and Derik Eaquinto from Saint Mary's.
San Diego led the way with four members on the 2025 WCC Preseason Team, including Smith as both a position player and a pitcher. Portland and Saint Mary's each featured three players, while Gonzaga heard its name called twice.
Jack Gurevitch (San Diego) and Zach Toglia (Portland) each made the All-WCC preseason team for the second straight year.
The 2025 baseball season gets underway Friday, Feb. 14. The WCC Conference season begins on Friday, March 21, and runs through Saturday, May 17. The 2025 WCC Baseball Tournament returns to Las Vegas Ballpark and will be held from May 21-24. As announced earlier today, the WCC Baseball Tournament championship game will be broadcast on ESPNU at 1 p.m.
