West Coast Conference Women's Soccer Roundup - Oct. 22

Pepperdine has a seven-point lead in first place

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Catch West Coast Conference women's soccer on television tonight as Gonzaga hosts Santa Clara at 6 p.m. on ESPNU. Pepperdine remains in the first place in the league standings with a solid seven-point lead over second place Saint Mary's and Portland.

Waves Keep Crashing
Pepperdine is riding a six-game winning streak, all since the start of conference play. In conference play, PEP is outscoring its opponents, 21-3. Pepperdine leads the West Coast Conference in points (102) and goals (36). Julia Quinonez leads the league lead in goals with nine and in points (21), while Tatum Wynalda paces the league in assists with eight. 

Following a Wednesday night contest at LMU, the Waves host Saint Mary's and the Gaels' stingy defense on Saturday at noon. 

Gaels Stellar On Defense
Saint Mary's is unbeaten in 10 of its last 12 games. During that span, the Gaels are outscoring opponents by a margin of 16-3. SMC is unbeaten at home, boasting a 5-0-2 record. The Gaels have only allowed nine goals this season, tied for a conference best, along with a GAA of 0.69, second best in the league. Goalie Kate Plachy is tied for fifth in the nation with eight shutouts.  Since an Aug. 24 battle against No. 2 Stanford, the Gaels have only allowed more than one goal in one of the following 11 matches. 

SMC heads to Southern California on Wednesday to play at San Diego prior to Saturday's showdown at Pepperdine.

Make Way For The Redhawks
Seattle U is enjoying a three-match winning streak and currently 6-1-1 at home in 2025. Starting with a tie at conference preseason favorite Santa Clara, Seattle U is unbeaten in its last four games. The Redhawks snapped Saint Mary's nine-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win. Caroline Penner is second in the league in goals (8) and in points (20). The Redhawks put on a clinic offensively with a 6-0 win at home over Pacific on Oct. 8. Seattle U is second in the WCC in goals (33), assists (29) and points (95). 

This Week
Six games are on the slate both on Wednesday and Saturday this week. On Wednesday, in addition to tonight's ESPNU matchup between Santa Clara and Gonzaga, Oregon State hosts Washington State, Pacific hosts San Francisco and Seattle U hosts Portland. 

On Saturday, Oregon State hosts Pacific, Santa Clara renews its rivalry with San Francisco, San Diego battles LMU in a Southern California tilt, Gonzaga hosts Seattle U and Portland battles Washington State.
