USF Takes Two Rawlings West Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week Awards

Santa Clara's Max Bayles repeats as Pitcher of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San Francisco claimed two of the three Conference player of the week awards as Patrick Keighran won Rawlings WCC Baseball Player of the Week and Eddison Esquivel earned Rawlings WCC Freshman of the Week. For the second time this season, Max Bayles from Santa Clara took Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week accolades. 

These are the first Conference weekly awards of the season for USF. 

RAWLINGS WCC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – PATRICK KEIGHRAN, SR., INF – SAN FRANCISCO
Patrick Keighran led San Francisco to three wins last week, including a series win over Central Michigan. Earlier in the week against Sacramento State, Keighran recorded three walks and one RBI. In four games against Central Michigan, Keighran led the Dons with a .545 batting average and six hits in 11 at-bats with five doubles, nine RBI, five walks, three hit-by-pitch and scored five runs. He went three-for-four at the plate and drove in a season-best four runs in the first game of the doubleheader last Saturday. He added another four-RBI performance in the series finale on Sunday, guiding the Dons to a 15-3 victory with two hits, two walks and three runs.

RAWLINGS WCC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – MAX BAYLES, SO. – SANTA CLARA
In what became an extra-inning victory against UC Davis, Max Bayles entered in the fifth inning and pitched through the 10th, earning his first victory of the season. He allowed only one run on three hits, and also struck out a career-high 12 batters, six days after he struck out a then-career-high nine in his last outing. In total, Bayles retired 16 batters -- 12 of them by strikeout. After the Broncos took the lead in the 10th, Bayles pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th with two more strikeouts. Bayles retired the last four batters he faced and eight of the last 10, six by strikeout. He owns both of SCU's Conference weekly awards this season.

RAWLINGS WCC BASEBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – EDDISON ESQUIVEL, FR., OF – SAN FRANCISCO
Eddison Esquivel collected a .308 batting average on four hits in 13 at-bats, two doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI and scored four times in three games played vs. Central Michigan. His .923 slugging percentage throughout the series ranked fourth highest as the Dons captured three of the four games against the Chippewas. In the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Esquivel recorded his first career home run and four RBI. He followed in the nightcap with a two-run double and scored a run as the Dons won, 12-2. In the series finale on Sunday, Esquivel registered his first-ever grand slam as the Dons recorded 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning en route to a 15-3 win.
