West Coast Conference Women's Soccer Roundup - Sept. 24

Conference play starts this week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - West Coast Conference women's soccer opens up conference play this week with seven women's soccer programs boasting an overall record of .500 or better.

West Coast Conference women's soccer opens conference play with six games today. In the conference opener, Pepperdine, the 2024 Co-West Coast Conference champions host Oregon State at 3 p.m. Saint Mary's hosts Gonzaga at 4 p.m. The Gaels upset No. 16 Georgetown during non-confernece play, and they boasted the league's top non-conference record at 5-1-1, including currently enjoying a five-match winning streak. 

Later in the evening matches on Wednesday, San Francisco hosts LMU at 6 p.m. In the Pacific Northwest, Washington State hosts Seattle U after the Redhawks went unbeaten in non-confernece play for the first time at the Division I level in program history (4-0-4). A matchup of two long-time conference standouts features Portland hosting 2024 Co-West Coast Conference champions Santa Clara at 7 p.m. 

Finally, enjoying its best start in program history, San Diego hosts Pacific at 7 p.m. USD (3-0-4) features freshman Amanda Anders, a two-time West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

During Non-Conference Play
In addition to SMC's upset win over No. 16 Georgetown, San Francisco also notched a ranked victory, taking down No. 18 Texas Tech at home. Santa Clara has faced some tough competition during non-conference play. The Broncos also battled Texas Tech, as well as No.7 Stanford and No. 9 Penn State.

Stat Leaders
Saint Mary's ranks No. 16 in the nation in assists per game (2.71). Individually, Ella Callanan from San Diego ranks 12th nationally in assists per game. Within the conference ranks, Caroline Penner from Seattle U paces the league with six goals. Defensively, reigning West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week Mya Sanchez leads the West Coast Conference with 40 saves.

Reigning co-conference champion Santa Clara visits Gonzaga on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
