Santa Clara Wins Two Of The First Rawlings Baseball Player of the Week Awards To Start 2026

Gonzaga takes the third accolade of the week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Opening the 2026 West Coast Conference Baseball season, Santa Clara claimed two of the three Conference player of the week awards as Thomas Ferroggiaro won Rawlings West Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Max Bayles earned Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. Gonzaga's Landon Hood took Rawlings West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week accolades. 

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – THOMAS FERROGGIARO, SR., INF – SANTA CLARA
Thomas Ferroggiaro reached base nine times, scored six runs and stole two bases with two multi-hit performances on the road at California in the Broncos' first three games of their season-opening series. He reached base four times on Friday, going 2-for-3 with two walks and scored three runs in leading SCU to a mercy rule 13-2 victory. He topped that in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, going 3-for-4 with another walk and two runs scored, tying a career best with two stolen bases in one game. He extended his active hitting streak to seven games, dating back to last season with a double and run scored in Saturday's doubleheader nightcap. Ferroggiaro batted .545, slugged .636 and carried an on-base percentage of .643 in the three games versus the Bears.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – MAX BAYLES, SO. – SANTA CLARA
Max Bayles threw four shutout innings with five strikeouts on the road in the season opener at California, leading Santa Clara to a blowout, 13-2, run-rule victory on Friday. In the first and third innings, Bayles worked around three base runners with fewer than two outs, ending both frames with strikeouts. Bayles only allowed one runner to reach third base in his four innings of work.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – LANDON HOOD, FR., P – GONZAGA
Landon Hood allowed only two baserunners in 6.1 innings of work,, posting a 0.32 WHIP. Hood did not allow a run in his outing against Hawaii, collecting a win in his first collegiate appearance. He threw eight strikeouts, averaging 11.4 K/9. At one point during his outing, Hood retired 12 Hawaii batters in a row.
