LAS VEGAS - No. 7 seed San Francisco took care of business with an 86-69 win over No. 6 Pepperdine in the third round of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
With the victory, the Dons advance for a quarterfinal matchup against No. 3 seed Santa Clara on Sunday at 2 p.m.
USF jumped out to a 28-14 lead in the first quarter and never lost momentum throughout the contest. The Dons forced 13 turnovers and turned that into 29 points off of turnovers. The Dons also got solid production off the bench, outscoring Pepperdine in that category, 23-13.
Mara Neira led the way for USF with 15 points, one of five Dons to reach double figures in scoring. Aina Cargol just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine assists.
For the Waves, Elli Guiney posted 22 points to lead all players. She also notched four rebounds and four assists. Meghan Fiso tallied 16 points with eight rebounds.
The Broncos won both regular season meetings, but the Feb. 28 matchup in the regular season finale went to overtime with SCU prevailing, 90-82, at Santa Clara.
