Knowles Wins Rawlings Baseball Player of the Week

Pacific and Gonzaga also garner conference recognition

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Batting just under .700 last week led to Payton Knowles from Seattle U winning Rawlings West Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week. Clutch out of the bullpen in a series sweep over Saint Mary's, Landon Hood from Gonzaga won Rawlings West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week. Pacific's Garret Plata was dominant in his win over Santa Clara to earn Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. 

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – PAYTON KNOWLES, JR., UTL – SEATTLE U
Payton Knowles went 9-for-13 in the series win over San Diego, driving in eight runs on six extra base hits and walked four times. Knowles boasted five doubles against the Toreros, two each in Saturday's and Sunday's games, and he also tripled on Saturday. He earned eight RBI, including four on Saturday and three on Sunday. He also scored seven times total, including three runs on Sunday. Between Saturday and Sunday combined, Knowles batted 8-for-9. This is Knowles' first conference weekly award this season and the Redhawks now own three on the year.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – GARRET PLATA, JR., LHP – PACIFIC
Garret Plata threw six scoreless innings for his third straight quality start of conference play. He guided the Tigers to a 7-1 win over Santa Clara on Sunday, striking out six batters on two hits and one walk. Plata lowered his ERA to a conference-low 1.71 mark in the process. This is Plata's first conference weekly award this season and the Tigers now boast two on the year.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – LANDON HOOD, FR., RHP – GONZAGA
Landon Hood secured the save in a one-run game on Sunday, appearing in his second scoreless outing of the weekend. He tossed 3.1 innings total, while allowing only three hits. Hood struck out four batters during the series sweep of Saint Mary's. Hood still has not given up a run in the month of April. This is the fourth time this season that Hood has won conference freshman of the week.
