SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The No. 19 Portland women placed fifth at NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento, California with two individuals in the top 10, while the fourth-ranked men took first and punched their ticket to the national championship race in Wisconsin. 
 
Lauren LaRocco and Taryn Rawlings led the Pilots on the women’s side with top-10 finishes while San Francisco finished in 10
th, led by Tatjana Schulte (37
th/20:44.8). Rawlings, LaRocco and Aoibhe Richardson (19
th/20:10.9) all earned All-West Region honors for the Pilots. 
 
It was business as usual on the men’s side for No. 4 Portland, who swept the team and individual titles with Nick Hauger breaking the tape first in 29:42.4. The Pilots have now clinched an NCAA Championship berth for the 19
thtime in program history and third year in a row.  
 
Hauger was one of seven West Coast Conference runners from four different schools to break the tape in the top 20, and one of five in the top 10.
 
No. 28 Gonzaga shattered program records on Friday, posting their highest team (9
th) and individual (James Mwaura, 10
th) finishes in program history. Mwaura’s time of 29:48.86 was also the Bulldogs’ first men’s individual sub-30 time at both a West Regional race and on a 10,000-meter course.
 
Koby Pederson of Loyola Marymount also tore down program records, posting the first top-10 West Region finish in Lions history with a time of 29:44.1 and the first sub-30 men’s individual time for the Lions at the event. The Lions’ 13
th-place finish was the highest team placing since 2009.
 
By virtue of winning the team title in Sacramento, the Portland men’s squad has punched its ticket to the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 17 at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis. The NCAA will make its formal at-large announcements Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. PT on NCAA.com
 
 
WOMEN'S RACE BULLETS
	- Lauren LaRocco (8th) and Taryn Rawlings (10th) both registered top-10 finishes for the No. 19 Pilots 
- LaRocco, Rawlings and Richardson earned All-West Region honors for Portland
- This was the second consecutive top-15 finish for Rawlings
- The Pilots were one of three schools to place three runners in the top 20
- San Francisco took 10thplace with three runners in the top 50
- LaRocco posted her second top-10 West Region finish of her career
- USF’s Tatjana Schulte turned in her second consecutive top-40 finish
MEN'S RACE BULLETS
	- Seven runners from four different schools finished in the top 20, including five in the top 10
- No. 4 Portland captured their second straight West Region title with three runners in the top 20

- Gonzaga’s 9thplace finish is the highest in program history, as is WCC Freshman of the Year James Mwaura’s 10thplace finish for individual times
- Mwaura was the first freshman to break the tape at Friday’s race, and the first freshman to finish in the top 10 in a West Region race since 2013
- Koby Pederson placed third in 29:44.1 for Loyola Marymount’s highest individual men’s finish and first sub-30 West Region time in program history
