Pepperdine’s Gilfoy Named WCC Player of the Week

Natural forward stepped in at GK and posted road shutout

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Pepperdine junior Devyn Gilfoy has been named the West Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Gilfoy was originally slated to be in the starting lineup at her natural position of forward on Friday night at San Diego, but instead at the last minute was shifted to goalie in an emergency start when the Waves' regular starter became unavailable.

Playing goalie in college for the first time, and for the first time since her youth soccer days, Gilfoy collected two saves and did well on numerous crosses, corner kicks and other miscellaneous balls in the box to help Pepperdine post a 1-0 overtime road victory at San Diego, keeping the Waves' NCAA Tournament hopes alive. It was the team's ninth shutout of the season.
