SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announces its WCC Alumni Player of the Week honors of the summer, presented by University Credit Union. The Week 12 honoree is former Saint Mary’s ace
Corbin Burnes. This is the third weekly alumni honor for Burnes.
Burnes had another big week to help the Brewers stay in playoff contention. In a pair of starts, Burnes tossed 10.2 innings, allowing one earned run and nine hits while striking out 19 with just three walks. In his last five outings the former Gael has allowed just two runs, one earned lowering his season ERA to 1.77 with 83 punchouts in 56.0 innings.
The Cy Young candidate leads the National League in multiple categories including ERA (1.77), Batting average against (.159), K/9IP (13.34) and Hits/9IP (4.98).
An All-WCC first team pick as a junior in his final collegiate season in Moraga, Burnes led the Gaels to the 2016 WCC Tournament Championship and helped the program to its first-ever NCAA Regional berth.
