Presenting the 2021 All-WCC Softball Honors

SAN MATEO, Calif. – After winning its seventh-straight West Coast Conference title, BYU softball claimed four of the five major postseason awards and placed five players on the All-WCC First Team. BYU’s Violet Zavodnik was named WCC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year while teammate Autumn Moffat-Korth earned Pitcher of the Year recognition. Their coach, Gordon Eakin, garnered Coach of the Year honors while Santa Clara’s Ashley Trierweiler was selected as Defensive Player of the Year.

All of the major individual awards and the all-conference teams were voted on solely by the WCC's head coaches.

Zavodnik became the sixth-straight BYU player to be named the WCC Player of the Year and the first in WCC softball history to receive both awards for top player and freshman in the same season. An outfielder from Murrieta, California, Zavodnik led the WCC in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage with a slash line of .513/.586/1.103 during conference play. She also led the WCC in RBI (18) and triples (4) and was second in doubles (3), homeruns (4) and runs scored (13).

With Moffat-Korth earning Pitcher of the Year recognition, a BYU player has received the honor in six-straight seasons. Moffat-Korth was a perfect 7-0 with six complete games in eight starts during WCC action. She led the WCC with a 0.72 ERA, was second in strikeouts with 42 and allowed just four walks, the best among full-time starters.

Eakin was named Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career while leading BYU to its seventh-straight WCC title and 12th-straight conference title overall. By winning the WCC regular season title, the Cougars earned an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Tournament, their 16th-straight appearance, all under Eakin’s direction.

Defensive Player of the Year Trierweiler, a freshman from Belmont, California, is the first Santa Clara student-athlete to earn a major conference postseason award in softball. The outfielder posted a perfect fielding percentage while contributing 49 putouts and three assists. At the plate, Trierweiler hit .419 and drove in seven runs. Trierweiler, Zavodnik and Moffat-Korth all earned spots on the All-WCC First Team.

The All-WCC First Team featured a league-best five BYU players, four from LMU and one each from Pacific, Saint Mary’s and Santa Clara. A complete list of All-WCC performers and major postseason award winners can be found below.
