WCC Announces 2020-21 Rowing All-Academic Team

33 Student-Athletes Post 3.75 GPA or better in 2020-21

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its Rowing All-Academic Team for the 2020-21 season. This year’s 17-member first team encompasses WCC student-athletes who excelled both on the water and in the classroom.

All seven WCC institutions sponsoring rowing were represented on the All-Academic First Team, headlined by five student-athletes from San Diego. Gonzaga, the 2021 WCC Champions and NCAA Nationals participant, collected four spots on the first team, while Creighton, Portland and Saint Mary’s each had a pair of selections.

This year’s squad features six repeat appearances led by four making their third and final first team: Creighton’s Kate Graham, Santa Clara’s Molly Mertes, Saint Mary’s Emily Millbrath, and Gonzaga’s Schuyler Peters, the 2021 WCC Co-Coxswain of the Year. Gonzaga’s Zoe Calambokidis and Creighton’s Gretchen Strobbe earned a first team spot for the second time. Four of the multiple honorees earned all-conference honors at the 2021 WCC Rowing Championship.

No fewer than 80 student-athletes qualified for academic honors.  More than 50 posted a GPA of at least 3.50, while 33 posted marks of 3.75 or better.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
