SAN MATEO, Calif. – A total of 13 West Coast Conference baseball student-athletes were selected during the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.

• Six WCC programs had at least one draft selection and five had at least two chosen

WCC DAY THREE DRAFT NOTABLES

• Six WCC student-athletes were chosen in the final 10 rounds (11-20) of the MLB Draft
• WCC Pitcher of the Year Alek Jacob (Gonzaga) was chosen in the 16th round by the San Diego Padres
• Four pitchers were selected along with a pair of shortstops

 
WCC DAY TWO DRAFT NOTABLES

• Seven WCC student-athletes were chosen in the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft is the most since 2017 when eight heard their names called
• Six of the seven WCC standouts picked on day two (rounds 2-10) went to American League clubs and four went to American League West teams
• Three – Brett Harris (Gonzaga), Shane McGuire (San Diego) and Jack Winkler (San Francisco) were nabbed by the Oakland Athletics
• Harris was the 2021 WCC Defensive Player of the Year
• Six of the seven WCC day two selections were seniors
• Ky Bush (Saint Mary’s) is the first pitcher drafted in round two since 2019 WCC Pitcher of the Year Corey Abbott
• Bush is the fourth Gael ever drafted in the second round or better
