After winning its first WCC Softball Championship, LMU picked up four of the five West Coast Conference major awards as announced by the Conference on Tuesday. The Lions also placed four players on the All-WCC First Team.
A six-time WCC Pitcher of the Week honoree during the regular season, LMU’s Jenna Perez won Pitcher of the Year. LMU’s Georgia Blair was named WCC Player of the Year, while her teammate Jasmine Sofowora was awarded WCC Freshman of the Year. LMU continued its streak with head coach Tairia Flowers receiving Coach of the Year honors. Delaney Scully of Pacific was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year.
All of the major individual awards and the all-conference teams were voted on solely by the WCC's head coaches.
Blair won WCC Player of the Week twice this season, boasting a season batting average of .386 and a slugging percentage of .646 this season. She tied for the team lead in home runs with seven. Some other notable statistics also include 21 runs scored and 31 RBI.
Perez ended the regular season ranking first in the WCC in earned-run average (1.31). Her ERA also ranks 15th in the nation. She boasts 57 more strikeouts than the second-ranked WCC pitcher in that category.
Sofowara picked up WCC Player of the Week honors once this season. She batted .361 and garnered a slugging percentage of .651 this season. She belted five homers, as well, and collected 24 RBI.
Flowers led LMU to its first WCC Softball Championship as Co-Champions with BYU. The Lions earned the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament after winning the regular-season series against the Cougars. LMU will compete in the UCLA Regional this weekend.
In her first year at Pacific, Scully batted .254 with a .391 slugging percentage. The infielder posted a fielding percentage of .985 with only four errors committed. She also helped produce seven double plays for the Tigers this season.
