WCC Announces 2022-23 ESPN And CBS Sports Network Men’s Basketball Telecast Schedule

SAN MATEO, Calif. – As part of its long-term partnerships, the West Coast Conference has announced 17 men's basketball games involving WCC schools that will air nationally on ESPN Networks this season, as well as 12 games that will air nationally on CBS Sports Network. The partnership with ESPN includes additional exposure during the 2023 University Credit Union (UCU) West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas.

The WCC will once again be a featured part of ESPN’s Thursday night and Saturday coverage, with 16 conference games that will air on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU during the 2022-23 conference campaign. West Coast Conference basketball will be featured on ESPN’s popular Championship Week coverage once again in 2023, with six live telecasts from Las Vegas during the UCU WCC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament. This includes both the UCU WCC Tournament men's basketball and women's basketball championship games on March 7.

The WCC's national telecast package on ESPN is highlighted by a non-conference clash between perennial national powerhouse Kentucky and Gonzaga on Nov. 20 in Spokane, Washington. The Zags will make eight ESPN appearances during conference play. BYU, Saint Mary's and San Francisco will be featured on the ESPN networks six times in WCC games.

All games aired on an ESPN network will also be available through the ESPN app, accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.

Among the 12 games that will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, 10 will be intraconference games. BYU will be featured five times, including a battle against in-state rival Utah in a non-conference matchup on Dec. 17. The other non-conference game on CBS Sports Network is set for Dec. 21 when Arizona State visits San Francisco. The Dons and Santa Clara will be featured on CBS Sports three times each this season. Gonzaga and Saint Mary's will be featured on CBS Sports Network two times each.

Outside of the Gonzaga-Kentucky, BYU-Utah and USF-Arizona State matchups, several WCC programs will play non-conference games on both ESPN and CBS Sports Network this season. Gonzaga and Michigan State will meet in the Armed Forces Classic in San Diego on the flight deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln on Nov. 11. Gonzaga and Portland will compete in the Phil Knight Invitational event in Portland from Nov. 24 to Nov. 27. The Pilots open against NCAA runner-up North Carolina, while Gonzaga faces Portland State in the event opener on Nov. 24. Other WCC teams in tournaments on the ESPN networks include BYU in the Battle 4 Atlantis and Pepperdine in the Diamond Head Classic. Gonzaga will also travel to Austin for a matchup with Texas on Nov. 16 and Saint Mary's meets Houston in Fort Worth, Texas, on Dec. 3. Both contests will be nationally televised on ESPN2. The Gaels also face Vanderbilt in the Wooden Legacy event on Nov. 24.

In addition, LMU will compete in the Jaimaica Classic, which will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

This season will be the fifth season with the modified WCC men’s basketball schedule. The 16-game schedule is the result of changes adopted by the WCC Presidents’ Council in 2018 as part of the Conference’s Men’s Basketball Enhancement Plan. These schedule initiatives demonstrate the league-wide commitment by West Coast Conference Presidents and Athletic Directors to adopt an innovative approach to advance men’s basketball on the national stage.

WCC men’s basketball is coming off one of the most successful seasons in the history of the Conference in 2021-22 that featured three teams in the NCAA Tournament, which tied a conference best. No. 1 seed Gonzaga advanced to the Round of 16, while Saint Mary's advanced to the second round and San Francisco competed in the national tournament for the first time since 1998. Six WCC teams in total competed in postseason play. In addition, the three NCAA Tournament bids in 2021-22 made the WCC a multi-bid conference in eight of the last 10 NCAA Tournaments in years in which the tournament was played (no tournament in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).
