SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – San Diego has been selected as the favorite to win the 2024 West Coast Conference Men’s Tennis regular season title in the WCC's preseason poll that was announced on Tuesday.
The preseason poll and All-WCC preseason team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's nine head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
San Diego received six first-place votes and 62 total points in the WCC poll. The Toreros were followed by Pepperdine, receiving 59 points and three first-place votes. Santa Clara was next in third with 49 points, followed by Pacific in fourth with 42.
Pepperdine, Santa Clara and USD each placed two players on the league's six-player preseason team.
Pepperdine defeated San Diego for the 2023 WCC Men's Tennis Tournament Championship in 2023, snapping the Toreros' seven-year streak as Conference champions. They both advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 2024 season gets underway on Friday, Jan. 12, with the majority of WCC teams beginning their campaign next week.
