San Francisco Leads Through Round One

BREMERTON, Wash. – San Francisco opened the 2023 West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship shooting 5-under 283 on Thursday at Gold Mountain Golf Club, taking a one-shot lead in round one. 
 
Round one weather featured sunny and clear skies with mild winds.
 
Pepperdine finished the opening round in second at four-under 284.
 
Jackson Rothwell of San Francisco leads the field shooting 6-under 66 through the first round.
 
After Rothwell, William Mouw of Pepperdine is second on the player leaderboard behind a score of four-under 68. Two golfers are tied in third at three-under 69 – BYU’s Zac Jones and San Diego’s Kelvin Si. Three golfers are tied in fifth at two-under 70 – LMU’s Riley Lewis, Leonardo Rigamonti of Pacific, and BYU’s Max Brenchley.
 
BYU collected 20 birdies, the most on the day. USF’s Rothwell paced the field with seven birdies through round one. LMU and Santa Clara were close behind the Cougars with 19. There were a pair of eagles in the opening round from San Diego’s Harrison Kingsley and Benjamin Partridge of San Francisco.
 
The WCC Men’s Golf Championship continues tomorrow with Round 2 and will conclude on Saturday from Gold Mountain Golf Course.
