SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San Diego has been selected as the favorite to win the 2025 West Coast Conference Men’s Tennis championship in the WCC's preseason poll that was announced on Monday.
The preseason poll and All-WCC preseason team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's eight head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
San Diego received six first-place votes and 48 total points in the WCC poll. The Toreros were followed by Pepperdine, receiving 44 points and two first-place votes. Pacific was next in third with 36 points, followed by Santa Clara in fourth with 28.
Pepperdine, Pacific and USD all earned representation on the league's six-player preseason team. The Toreros had three players mentioned while the Waves had two and the Tigers had one.
San Diego defeated Pepperdine for the 2024 WCC Men's Tennis Tournament Championship, overcoming the defeat the Waves handed them the year prior. San Diego advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament while Pepperdine fell in the opening round.
This is the third straight year in which Oliver Tarvet (San Diego) was named to the preseason team and the second consecutive preseason nod for Maxi Homberg (Pepperdine) and Edward Winter (Pepperdine).
The 2024 season gets underway on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
