Overtime Performance Lands Thomas WCC Player Of The Week Honor

Austin Rapp of Portland was named WCC Freshman of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Scoring 34 points in the three-point overtime win over Santa Clara helped Malik Thomas of San Francisco win Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season. Austin Rapp of Portland won Credit Union 1 WCC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

Helping the Dons jump out to a 2-0 start in conference play, Malik Thomas finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal in San Francisco's 70-55 win over LMU. On Monday night, Thomas finished one point shy of his career high in USF's 97-94 overtime win over Santa Clara. He totaled 34 points, a season-best eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win over the Broncos. Overall, he shot 16-of-17 from the free throw line across the two games while also shooting 39.5 percent (15-for-38) from the field and 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from three-point distance. USF now owns four Conference weekly awards this season.

CREDIT UNION 1 WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – AUSTIN RAPP, FR., F – PORTLAND
Austin Rapp averaged 19.5 points and six rebounds in Portland's start to league play against Washington State and Oregon State. He scored 17 points with six rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and a steal in 34 minutes during Portland's WCC opener against the Cougars last Saturday. Rapp made all 10 of his free throw attempts in the contest. He later notched a season-high 22 points against the Beavers on Monday, including shooting 7-for-12 from the field and 5-for-10 from three-point range. The Melbourne, Australia, native leads all WCC freshmen in scoring and rebounding this season, and he leads the entire WCC in three-point percentage (.411), three-pointers made (39) and in free throw percentage (.918). Rapp owns both of Portland's Conference weekly honors this season.
