WCC Announces 2023-24 Women's Golf Conference Awards

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pepperdine won two of the three West Coast Conference women's golf end of the year major awards, as announced by the Conference on Tuesday.
 
All-WCC selections and major individual award winners were selected solely by the four conference head coaches.
 
Jeneath Wong became the ninth Pepperdine women's golfer, and third in as many years, to earn WCC Player of the Year. Last week, Wong posted a three-day total of 220 (73-72-75) to finish in fourth-place at the 2024 WCC Women's Golf Championship. She finished with nine birdies overall, including four in the final round. Wong is currently listed at No. 30 on Scoreboard powered by Clippd rankings.
 
On the season, Wong won Silicon Valley Showcase and finished top 3 twice across nine events.
 
Pepperdine head coach, Laurie Gibbs, was voted WCC Coach of the Year for the 16th time in her career. Gibbs won it four years in a row from 2005-08 and enjoyed a streak being WCC Coach of the Year nine out of 11 seasons from 1998-2008. Gibbs guided Pepperdine to its third-consecutive Conference title, winning the 2024 WCC Championship last Sunday.

Pepperdine has won 21 WCC Women’s Golf Championships, including 14 straight between 2002 and 2015. The Waves took three of the top 4 positions on the individual leaderboard on Sunday (1. Lauren Gomez, 2. Lion Higo, 4. Wong). This is the team's fourth win this season, as the Waves won the Dick McGuire Invitational and Golfweek Red Sky Classic in the fall, as well as the Silicon Valley Showcase this spring.
 
Kelsey Kim of Santa Clara was tabbed WCC Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Bronco to earn the award since Annie Freeman in 2014. Kim shot 1-over 73 in the final round to climb three spots and into a tie for 12th at the 2024 WCC Women’s Golf Championship last Sunday.
 
Pepperdine had the most All-WCC selections with four. San Francisco had three selections while Gonzaga had two awarded all-conference honors. Santa Clara had one athlete make the All-WCC team. This year’s 10-member all-conference team features two sophomores, four juniors, a pair of seniors, and one graduate student. Lion Higo earned her fourth straight all-conference honor while Pepperdine’s Lauren Gomez, Kaleiya Romero, and Riana Mission of San Francisco appear on their third straight All-WCC lineup. Jeneath This is the second time Wong and Grace Lee have garnered all-conference accolades.
