SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - A key three-game series went Gonzaga's way last week as the Bulldogs took two out of three over Portland to move into first place in the West Coast Conference Baseball standings. Action continues this week with five times sporting records of .500 or better in the league. 

The Bulldogs enter the week in first place at 12-3, while Portland and Saint Mary's are tied for second at 9-3. San Diego, receiving votes once again in the latest national polls. are next at 11-4 in league play. Santa Clara is in fifth place at 6-6 in WCC games. 

This Week
Four Conference series are on the slate this weekend. Highlighting the weekend is another big series for Gonzaga as they head to San Diego to face the Toreros. 

Portland looks to pick up a series victory as the Pilots head to Southern California to face LMU. The series will feature the dominant pitching of Portland versus the red-hot bats from the Lions. 

Two series will take place in the Bay Area with San Francisco hosting Pacific and Santa Clara hosting Saint Mary's. 

Last Week
Gonzaga took over first place after winning two out of three against Portland. The tight series featured two one-run ballgames including a 4-3 Portland win and a 2-1 Gonzaga win.

San Diego swept Pepperdine before besting cross-town rival San Diego State last Tuesday. 

LMU lit up the scoreboard against Pacific. The Lions won two out of three over the Tigers, including a 21-4 victory and a 13-11 series clinching win. 

This past Tuesday, Santa Clara picked up a big 4-2 win over Stanford and LMU topped UC Santa Barbara, 9-4. 

Stat Leaders
Portland pitching continues to compile strikeouts. Nick Brinks ranks tied for 14th with 79, while Sam Stuhr is right behind him with 76, 25th nationally. 

The WCC boasts two batters in the top 20 nationally in slugging percentage. San Diego's Jakob Christian is No. 7 (.875), while Christian Almanza of Saint Mary's ranks No. 18 at .817. The pair also rank in the top 15th nationally in home runs with Christian leading the way tied for eighth with 19 and Almanza right behind him tied for 14th with 17. 

As a team. Saint Mary's ranks 20th in slugging percentage (.531). San Diego is No. 17 in strikeouts per game (10.6).
